NeTpower Teams With Microsoft to Bring Internet Explorer 4.0 to Windows NT Workstation Market; Originator of Windows NT Workstation and Server Computing to Deliver Customized Information to the Desktop
Business Wire, Sept 17, 1997
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1997--NeTpower, the originator of Windows NT workstation and server computing, has teamed with Microsoft Corp. to ship all new NeTpower systems with a customized version of Microsoft's new Internet Explorer 4.0 (IE 4.0).
The new version of Microsoft's multi-functional Web client with active channels presents NeTpower users with the most complete solution for Web access and allows NeTpower to provide on-line service and support. This latest agreement between workstation powerhouse NeTpower and Microsoft further illustrates NeTpower's leadership as the complete solutions provider for the Windows NT workstation and server markets.
One of the greatest challenges faced by users is immediate access to information. Because IE 4.0 is a truly integrated Web client, it provides access to all sources of information on both LANs and the Internet. NeTpower customers with IE 4.0 will automatically receive Outlook Express e-mail, Microsoft NetMeeting for conferencing, Dynamic HTML and NetShow 2.0, enabling users to view and listen to live or recorded broadcasts on the Internet. Not only will users be able to receive the latest software plug-ins, new bug fixes and information from NeTpower on the company's latest solutions, but the active channel can be utilized to provide immediate service and support. IE 4.0 also enables corporate administrators to save valuable man-hours by delivering notification of software updates straight to the users systems.
"With the latest version of Internet Explorer on all NeTpower systems, Internet access and use will be much friendlier and easier for our customers, providing further validation of NeTpower's determination to distinguish itself as the complete provider of meaningful technologies for the Windows NT workstation and server arena," said Bob Miller, chairman and CEO of NeTpower. "When NeTpower began its quest four years ago to challenge proprietary systems and provide complete Windows NT workstation and server solutions, we saw Microsoft and the company's enabling technologies as a major piece of the puzzle. "We have expanded our efforts with Microsoft to not only offer our customers the best operating system, but to bring the most functional communications and Internet tools to the desktop."
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 has been designed to be the premier Internet client for corporate Internet, intranet and extranet solutions. When combined with the Internet Explorer Administration Kit, IE 4.0 can be fully customized, controlled and managed to provide users the optimum desktop performance. The single, seamless user interface increases productivity while limiting training time. IE 4.0 allows any site to be "webcast" to the desktop, and features like off-line caching and multiple push delivery options make IE 4.0 the premier push solution. IE 4.0 provides users with the fastest Java(R) implementation available, and AutoComplete will simplify users' searching and browsing activities.
"NeTpower's presence in a wide variety of focused and unique channels makes the company an ideal fit to help bring IE 4.0 to the market," said Kevin Unangst, product manager for Internet Explorer at Microsoft. "NeTpower has recognized the value of a tool like Internet Explorer 4.0 to not only provide the company's customers with the best Internet tools available, but also for the product's ability to enhance NeTpower's own customer service efforts."
