Mitsubishi Consumer Electronics America Inc. Announces Commitment to Produce Digital Television Products on Schedule With The FCC's Broadcasting Roll-Out Schedule

NORCROSS, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1997--Mitsubishi Consumer Electronics America Inc. (MCEA) Wednesday announced that beginning the fall of 1998, it will bring to market Digital HDTV receivers in the United States that fully support the FCC and Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) digital TV/HDTV specifications.
Specifically, MCEA HDTV receivers and equipment will receive and decode the ATSC digital signal formats, including wide-screen HDTV, to permit U.S. broadcasters, cable operators and their viewers to take full advantage of their enormous quality and flexibility built into the FCC and ATSC DTV/HDTV standards. MCEA receivers will also receive existing NTSC signals throughout the transition period.
Mitsubishi Consumer Electronics America further committed to meeting the FCC digital TV timetable that will provide initial DTV/HDTV services in the Top 10 television markets beginning in the fall of 1998.
Mitsubishi Consumer Electronics America also announced that going forward it is committed to serving the U.S. public by providing high quality, wide screen, digital TV and HDTV receivers in quantity to receive and display the digital TV and HDTV programs throughout the United States.
The company noted that in cooperation with the U.S. broadcasters and cable operators, it can effect a smooth and rapid transition to digital TV and HDTV for the U.S. in accordance with the current FCC schedule and any amendments thereto.
