Business Wire, Sept 18, 1997
MAHWAH, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 18, 1997--
Introduction of New H/PC Line Planned for Fourth Quarter, 1997
Sharp Electronics Corporation plans to introduce a handheld PC (H/PC) with Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) CE before the end of the year.
Since 1988 when Sharp pioneered the handheld category with the first Wizard(R) electronic organizer, the company has continued to meet the changing needs of the mobile market with new products that have advanced the category. As the PC network environment and cellular communication technologies expand and redefine market needs, Sharp will continue to offer the latest technology to fulfill the mobile requirements of both corporate and consumer users.
"We believe Windows CE is creating a new category of mobile products by addressing the needs of the corporate user familiar with the Windows OS environment," said Ted Rozylowicz, vice president of Sharp's Mobile and Home Office Equipment Division. "The addition of a Windows CE line builds on Sharp's strategy to offer a variety of handheld products to meet the needs of every user. Our expertise in the handheld market, based on many years of hardware and software success in the Zaurus and Wizard product lines, puts us in excellent position to achieve number one marketshare in the Windows CE market."
Sharp's experience in the handheld marketplace combined with the robust, application-flexible benefits of Windows CE will enable Sharp to offer H/PCs that have unique features not available on other Windows CE products.
The new Windows CE product line will be an addition to Sharp's category leading Zaurus(R) PC Companions, Wizard(R), SE-500 Mobile Organizer and YO series of electronic organizers.
