Panasonic To Provide HDTV And Digital TV Products

SECAUCUS, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 19, 1997--Matsushita Electric Corporation of America (MECA) and its Panasonic sales subsidiaries will provide high quality digital television products to enable broadcasters and consumers to enjoy the benefits of the new age of digital broadcasting that will start next year. The company is an active member of the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association (CEMA), whose members have been working over the past decade to perfect equipment for use with the new digital and HDTV standard - - the Digital Television Standard of the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) - - adopted by the FCC and the industry.

Through its laboratories and design facilities in the U.S., Panasonic has actively pursued research and development activities on digital TV and HDTV since 1982. It continues to be Panasonic's aim to supply the highest quality consumer and professional television products that are capable of creating and displaying HDTV and any other video format within the ATSC standard for digital TV.

Panasonic is now developing a line of HDTV and DTV products to meet anticipated consumer demand in the second half of 1998. The company is already providing digital and HDTV video equipment to the major broadcast networks, as well as digital electronic news gathering and production equipment for local television stations, as they prepare for the country's transition to digital broadcasting.
