MT. LAUREL, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 2, 1997--
The OKIOFFICE 44 provides Business Quality Documents
at an Affordable Price
Okidata today introduced the OKIOFFICE 44, a fully integrated desktop solution for the user who needs printing, faxing, copying and scanning in one machine.
Designed to be economical and easy to use, the OKIOFFICE 44 includes a professional quality printer (faster printing with better quality than inkjet), a high-speed fax with 14.4 Kbps modem (capable of transmission speeds up to 6 seconds per page), a personal copier and a scanner with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software included -- all in one unit. The OKIOFFICE 44 provides the capability of PC interface or standalone operation for faxing and copying, a small footprint of 12.3 x 15.3 x 7.5 (WxDxH) and an anticipated street price of only $599.
"Okidata built the OKIOFFICE 44 in response to the changing business needs of today's office user," says James Upham, vice president and general manager of the company's multifunction products/facsimile line of business. "This simple office solution replaces four separate machines and fits just about anywhere. It can also help small business and home office users get more work done, with professional quality output at affordable operating costs."
The Simple Office Solution
The OKIOFFICE 44 comes fully functional out of the box, and features JetSuite(R) desktop software. Compatible with Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11, Windows 95 and most popular MS-DOS applications through the Windows DOS prompt, JetSuite(R) provides the integrated interface for users to print, fax, copy or scan directly from their PCs. The included graphical user interface (GUI) provides an easy-to-use tool for integrating hardware and software applications, while installation is facilitated by Plug and Play operation using included diskettes or CD-ROM. A parallel cable, user manuals and help directories complete the package.
Four Machines in One
The OKIOFFICE 44 features a high-resolution digital LED page printer with 600 dpi-quality output at four pages per minute. A microfine spherical toner yields clean, sharp text and graphics and extra-fine detail for charts and graphs. Other features include HP LaserJet IIP (PCL4) emulation for DOS-based applications, 512 Kb of resident memory and a Centronics bi-directional parallel interface - making this the industry's first machine with MFP-1-compatible protocol. There is also a graphical device interface (GDI) to drive output from a PC, reducing time-to-first-page and eliminating the need for printer memory upgrades.
Fax capabilities include standalone or PC-driven operation, with 200x400 dpi scanner resolution and Telephone Answering Device (TAD) interface. The JetSuite(R) software lets users enter and update phone lists and download them to the OKIOFFICE 44 - or lists can be entered directly. A standard 256-kb fax memory is included, upgradeable to 1.25 Mb. The OKIOFFICE 44 can store 10 permanent one-touch numbers, and is capable of loading up to 45 auto-dials.
The OKIOFFICE 44 can also be used as a standalone convenience copier, as well as provide customized copy options through the JetSuite(R) software. JetSuite(R) lets the user scan documents as document files, reduce or enlarge them, rotate them, format them to fit 1, 2 or 4 images on a sheet of paper, and collate the copies. It produces 4 copies per minute at up to 300 dpi resolution.
The TWAIN-compatible OKIOFFICE 44 scanner delivers up to 200 x 400 dpi resolution utilizing a direct contact sensor. Scan area is 8.5" W x 5" to 14" L, and a 2 level/dither mode provides 16 grayscale levels. The included Optional Character Recognition software eliminates keystroking and provides the means to input, modify and store files in full document formats. This eliminates the need to store large quantities of paper while allowing quick document retrieval when needed.
Energy Star Rating
The OKIOFFICE 44 complies with the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star(R) energy-efficient program, signifying low power usage by computers and peripherals. The printer's Power Save Mode automatically reduces power usage to less than 20 watts when it is inactive.
Warranty, Availability and Customer Support
The OKIOFFICE 44 comes with a five-year warranty on the LED printhead and a full one-year overnight exchange program in the United States and Canada. Free 7-day/24-hour customer support is available in the United States and Canada through the customer support center (1-800-OKIDATA) with real-time online support and fax-back capability.
