Attachmate Introduces Ultra-Thin Database Connectivity Tools for Corporate Developers
Business Wire, Sept 9, 1997
BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1997--Attachmate(r) Corporation today announced the availability of the new QuickDB(tm) 2.2 family.
QuickDB provides developers optimized access to host and LAN databases from any ODBC-enabled Windows(r) applications. With both thin and thick client solutions, QuickDB is a scaleable solution for corporate developers to include information from multiple databases without having to learn proprietary APIs for each database.
With the new QuickDB thin client solution, multiple database drivers are replaced by one, very thin, universal driver. Also, all database communication requirements and LAN database APIs reside on the server. Both of these features minimize the software that resides on the desktop, thereby reducing maintenance and administration costs. And because QuickDB runs on a TCP/IP network, organizations no longer have to run SNA to access host data and are able to exploit the open standard of TCP/IP, making the whole system easier to deploy and upgrade.
QuickDB's greatest strength is its all-around flexibility for developers which significantly reduces application development time. QuickDB has thin and thick client configurations, supports all popular development tools, provides access to virtually any database, and supports a wide variety of APPC network protocols. Developers can use the tools they are already familiar with including Visual Basic(r), Visual C (r), Delphi(tm), PowerBuilder(r), Microsoft(r) Access, and Crystal Service Crystal Reports. They can incorporate data from multiple host and LAN databases including DB2(r), DB2/400(tm), SQL/DS(tm), Oracle(r), and Sybase(r). Additionally, virtually any legacy or relational database can be accessed if a third-party ODBC driver is available.
QuickDB 2.2 has enhancements to make management of the system easy and pain-free for administrators. Clients can be pre-configured before they are deployed. Installation can be set as interactive or silent. And QuickDB Servers communicate so that if one were to ever fail the client load would be shared between the online servers, ensuring maximum productivity for users.
The QuickDB family is strong example of Attachmate's commitment to providing high function products to organizations, regardless of where they are in their migration to 32-bit or component-based technologies. The QuickDB product suite consists of QuickDB Universal, QuickDB for DB2, QuickDB Server, and QuickDB Thin Client.
Pricing and Availability
QuickDB is available now with a U.S. suggested retail price of $295 per desktop from Attachmate resellers, retailers and VARs, as well as through the Attachmate sales organizations.
