General Semiconductor Announces Election of Three New Corporate Officers

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 9, 1997--At a regularly scheduled meeting of its Board of Directors, General Semiconductor (NYSE:SEM) elected three new corporate officers.
The three are Linda S. Perry, Senior Vice President Human Resources; Robert J. Gange, Vice President, Controller; and Michael C. Smiley, Vice President, Treasurer.
Ms. Perry has been with General Semiconductor since 1982 and has had responsibility for worldwide human resources since 1984.
Mr. Gange joined the company in 1989 as manager of financial analysis and held positions of increasing responsibility prior to his election as vice president and controller.
Mr. Smiley joined General Instrument Corporation as assistant treasurer in 1996 and remained with General Semiconductor as vice president and treasurer upon the spin off of NextLevelSystems, Inc. and CommScope, Inc. in July, 1997.
