Bristol's Smyth Systems, National Distributor of NCR 2170 POS System, Adds Suite of Software, Peripherals

Business Wire, August 10, 1998

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 1998--Smyth Systems, subsidiary of Bristol Retail Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq:BRTL), recently appointed national distributor of the NCR 2170 point-of-sale (POS) system, Monday announced it has added a suite of software and peripheral products to the 2170 that will give independent grocery retailers a complete management system.

"Major supermarket chains and larger mass merchandisers have had several options in selecting a complete system for the management of their business," said Jim Reidy, Smyth vice president. "Now Smyth Systems is able to offer a comparable and affordable product package for smaller 1 to 4 lane stores."

The NCR General Purpose 2.0 release of the 2170 model system beefed up the front-end POS terminals to meet the desired features of these niche retailers, according to Reidy.

To complement the 2170, he said the following add-ons will be included in a suite offering: a back-office system from Total Control Information (TCI) that will incorporate inventory management and inventory control software into the point-of-sale management; Plourde software for credit authorization, debit and EBT transactions; Everest Pin Pad from Verifone; and a processing program for all credit, debit and EBT transactions for Concord EFT.

Smyth Systems will market theses products as a complete package to its national network of POS dealers, the company said, adding that the package will be preloaded and tested with a default register program so dealers can virtually drop the system into a retailer's location with minimum modification.

Dealers would supply first-line support to retailers with back-up from Smyth trainers and telephone-support professionals.

Reidy said Smyth Systems already has several dealers "eagerly awaiting release of its NCR 2170 packaged suite."

Smyth Systems, which has operations in Irvine; Aurora, Colo.; and North Canton, Ohio, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bristol Retail Solutions. Bristol, with headquarters in Newport Beach, Calif., provides retail automation products and services through an expanding network of point-of-sale businesses.
