EOS Corp. Wins Contract With DSE Inc. To Power Industrial Touch-Screen Computers

Business Wire, August 17, 1998

CAMARILLO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1998--

Ultra-Small EOS Power Supply Offers Quick, Powerful Solution for DSE's Ruggedized Computer Applications in Industrial Control Markets

EOS Corp.'s newly released and ultra-miniature "Jaguar" VLT60-3000 AC/DC switching power supply has been selected by DSE Inc., Phoenix, to power the company's line of PT-4000 industrial touch-screen computers, EOS announced Monday.

The DSE PT-4000 line of industrial touch-screen systems are used by numerous Fortune 1000 companies for industrial control, discrete manufacturing, monitoring and information systems, automated logistics systems, Human Machine Interface, process control and freight/warehouse management. Under terms of the agreement, DSE will take delivery over the next few months of several thousand EOS VLT60 Jaguar power supplies.

"The DSE contract represents a new customer in a new market," said Jim Schultz, EOS executive vice president. "It validates application of our new, small form factor power supplies and technology in the industrial market. This is one of our first VLT product family design wins with a touch-screen computer in an industrial application. This is a large and growing market and one we have targeted for marketshare growth," he said.

The high efficiency and performance of the EOS VLT60 Jaguar 60-watt internal power supply along with its small size were deemed critical design features and benefits leading to the DSE Inc. award. The Jaguar power supply converts traditional AC power to DC power at efficiency ratings reaching 90 percent compared with less than 80 percent by leading competitors. Such performance eliminates the need for an expensive and bulky cooling fan.

Moreover, the small 2-inch x 4-inch x 1-inch form factor of the Jaguar VLT60 makes it the smallest and most densely designed 60-watt open frame power supply available. In many cases, this feature alone makes the EOS Jaguar VLT60 the power supply of choice for electronic product manufacturers when space is at a premium. Comparable 60watt internal power supplies are more than twice the size.

"EOS has developed a breakthrough power supply system for use in our products and for electronic manufacturers in general," said Rick Ridley, president, DSE.

"We immediately saw the benefit of the EOS solution in our system. Our products work in a very ruggedized environment where product performance and reliability are a given. The small size, high efficiency and reliability of the EOS power supply make it a perfect fit for DSE and its end-user customers," Ridley said. "At DSE we believe the EOS design and marketing teams have come up with a real winner in this product line," he added.

EOS is known for designing and marketing the world's smallest and most efficient power supply systems. The Jaguar VLT60, designed in the DSE computer system, packs in a 2-inch x 4-inch x 1-inch footprint 7.5 watts per cubic inch, nearly three times the density of any other power supply on the market.

EOS introduced the Jaguar 60-watt power supply in May of this year and the VLT100 "Viper" 100-watt power supply last January. Both supplies are designed for use as internal power systems in a variety of products made by electronic Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

EOS is one of the fastest-growing companies in the global power supply industry. The company was also recently cited by big five accounting firm Deloitte & Touche as one of the fastest-growing high-technology firms in Southern California. EOS power supply systems are designed for application with laptop computer, POS, data networking, industrial control and other electronic equipment makers.
