SCM Microsystems Earns ISO 9001 Certification; Leading Provider of Secure Access Technologies is Certified by TUV Management Service
Business Wire, August 18, 1998
LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 18, 1998--SCM Microsystems today announced that the company has received ISO 9001 certification for four of its corporate offices. Through ISO 9001 certification, TUV Management Service, a leading global management systems Registrar, has determined that SCM Microsystems meets the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard, which defines a quality system for companies engaged in design, development, production, distribution and servicing.
ISO 9001 specifies the necessary elements of a quality management system. Originally published in 1987 by the International Organization for Standardization, a worldwide federation of national standards bodies, the organization was founded in 1946 to develop a common set of standards for manufacturing, trade and communications. ISO 9000 is internationally recognized as the defining set of quality assurance and quality management requirements worldwide.
"SCM Microsystems has demonstrated their ability to manufacture their products according to ISO 9001," said Mark Alpert, senior vice president of TUV Management Service. "This achievement has provided SCM Microsystems the tools necessary to excel in today's global marketplace, and we are pleased to certify this innovative company."
TUV coordinated its worldwide certification audit of SCM Microsystems between the offices of TUV Management Service America and TUV Management Service Munich, Germany.
Sites that are now ISO certified include SCM Microsystems' offices in Pfaffenhofen and Erfurt, Germany, the company's research and development office in La Ciotat, France, and its U.S. headquarters in Los Gatos, Calif., all based on audits performed in February 1998. Intellicard Systems, the Singapore provider of data communications and PC Card solutions acquired by SCM Microsystems earlier this year, is already ISO 9002 certified. ISO 9002 is the model for quality assurance in production and servicing.
"SCM Microsystems is committed to continuously improving its quality systems, and this is an initial, solid step in this direction," said David Hale, vice president of operations for SCM Microsystems.
