Esprit Systems, Inc. to Broaden Citrix ICA Windows-Based Terminal Product Line; Esprit 315-TC to Utilize MetaFrame Software for Advanced Thin Client Computing

Business Wire, August 21, 1998

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 1998--Esprit Systems, Inc., a leading developer and worldwide marketer of advanced technology computer terminals, today announced plans to broaden its line of Esprit 300 TC Windows(R)-based Terminals to take full advantage of the Citrix (NASDAQ:CTXS) MetaFrame ICA(R) thin client software.

Powered by a 200MHz Cyrix processor these enhancements include stereo sound, a 1280 x 1024 resolution and streaming video when released. The new Esprit terminal, 315-TC, in combination with Citrix thin-client/server technologies will reduce the cost of enterprise computing by centralizing and simplifying application deployment and management, expanding application access and providing bandwidth-independent performance and dynamic security.

Esprit has developed a new flexible enclosure supporting an optional smart card, ISA and PCI slots to meet new or custom functionality while still offering an internal power supply and support for monitors up to 21 inches. Ease of use and security are assured with auto log on, server browsing, document publishing, password protection and secure client access. Simple installation is made possible by both an internal power supply and a power outlet thus requiring only one power plug. Pricing will be announced at Citrix Thinergy98 in Orlando.

The new Esprit 315-TC terminal provides increased functionality and simplicity for the thin client desktop, featuring integrated audio output, VT220/100/52 and optional embedded TN327/5250, ANSI SCO, WY60/50 terminal emulation and token ring interface. Esprit's WBT 315-TC is designed for advanced thin client applications where versatility and enhanced functionality are required. For increased expandability or for special customer requirements the Esprit 315-TC comes with a PCI and ISA slots, memory expansion and extra processing power supplied by the MediaGXm 200 MHz-MMX processor.

Communication features include two high-speed 16550 serial ports, a 10/100BaseT Ethernet interface, and a local printer port, which is also network addressable. The single-board system uses FlashROM technology for storing operating firmware and provides the ability to automatically update the firmware from a server at no additional cost.

Founded in 1983, Esprit Systems manufactures data terminals, a remote access server, for operating systems such as UNIX, and Windows NT environments. The company's headquarters are located in San Jose.
