Business Wire, August 25, 1998

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 1998--

HP Servers and Web QoS Technology Provide Solid Foundation for Advanced Global Network

Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that USinternetworking, Inc. (USi), an Internet Managed Application Provider (iMAP), has selected HP as its preferred UNIX(R) system platform supplier and is integrating HP-UX(1) and HP Web Quality of Service (Web QoS) technology into its global, mission-critical data-center network. USi is leveraging these HP solutions to provide value-added services -- backed by USi's industry-leading service-level agreements and mission-critical performance -- to its middle-market customers.

The USi Global Network -- currently operating through its Annapolis, Md., and Milpitas, Calif., Enterprise Data Centers, and scheduled for completion worldwide by year-end -- will feature HP 9000 D-Class and K-Class servers prominently as the preferred UNIX system platform. Each of the data centers in the United States, Japan and Europe will house hundreds of Internet-connected computers hosting USi's Internet Managed Application Portfolio of business application services, such as sales-force automation, customer service, supply-chain management, human resources, core financials, e-commerce, and decision support through datamarts.

The USi Global Network will integrate HP Web QoS technologies for peak-user management and privileged-based services to strengthen its mission-critical service offerings and guarantee aggressive levels of performance for its enterprise customers during unexpected surges of demand.

"Our strategic alliance with HP provides a breadth of technology and business solutions that enables us to rapidly deploy a robust and reliable global network ahead of schedule," said Christopher R. McCleary, chairman and chief executive officer of USinternetworking. "USi's data centers, running on HP servers with Web QoS technology, will provide the reliable, mission-critical infrastructure to support a wide variety of Internet applications that USi's enterprise customers demand."
