Cubic Defense Systems Awarded Contract To Procure Rangeless Air Combat Training System for Alpena, Mich. Combat Readiness Training Center
Business Wire, August 26, 1998
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 1998--Cubic Defense Systems Inc. has been awarded a $2.8 million contract to provide a rangeless air combat training system for the U.S. Air Force's Air National Guard Combat Readiness Training Center at Alpena, Mich., the company announced today.
The contract was awarded to Cubic through the Range Instrumentation Systems Program Office of the Air Force's Aeronautical Systems Center at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.
The system that the Alpena CRTC will receive is based on Cubic's Air Combat Training -- Rangeless, or ACT-R, technology. This technology was first fielded for the U.S. Air Force at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, in a system known as the Kadena Interim Training System, or KITS.
Since KITS was installed at Kadena in August 1997, it has flown more than 4,300 sorties.
Alpena will be the second installation to receive the Cubic rangeless air combat training pods, AN/ASQ-T34. Included in the installation will be a limited live-monitor capability that will allow viewing of the air combat training mission in real time. The contract also includes one year of contractor logistics support and an option for an additional year. The system is expected to have an initial operating capability (IOC) during early fall 1998.
This will be the fourth Global Positioning System-based air combat training system fielded or soon to be fielded by Cubic. Other systems include the GPS upgrade to the Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla. Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI), and the KITS rangeless air combat training system installed at the USAF's Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, and the soon-to-be-fielded expansion and replacement of the USAF Red Flag Measurement and Debriefing System (RFMDS) with the Nellis Air Combat Training System (NACTS).
Cubic Defense Systems, the recognized world leader in air combat training systems, has installed 22 of the 25 air combat training systems currently in use throughout the world.
Cubic Defense Systems is a subsidiary of Cubic Corporation of San Diego, a firm that is listed on the American Stock Exchange under the symbol CUB.
