Vistar Telecommunications Selects Motorola Embedded Wireless Modems
Business Wire, August 3, 1998
BOTHELL, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 1998--Vistar Telecommunications Inc. has selected Motorola embedded wireless modems for its dual-mode satellite/terrestrial data communications terminal that will provide mobile data messaging and automatic vehicle location for transportation and fleet management markets.
Under the initial $2.5 million contract, Vistar, a provider of innovative wireless communications solutions and products, will integrate Motorola wireless modems into its mobile satellite communications terminal that is expected to be commercially available in 1999.
"Vistar is very pleased to partner with Motorola as our wireless modem supplier," said Dr. Mike Zuliani, president and CEO of Vistar. "We also look forward to expanding this relationship to include other innovative wireless product opportunities."
The Vistar terminal will communicate via DataTAC(r) two-way public wireless data systems in North America operated by American Mobile ARDIS in the United States and Bell Mobility in Canada. Vistar will combine terrestrial and satellite communications to deliver full-continent coverage.
Motorola embedded wireless modems enable real-time communications with databases and other computer systems for products such as portable computers, EFTPOS terminals, energy meters, vending machines, security systems and remote monitoring devices. The modems operate worldwide on separate DataTAC(r) systems.
