New HP Monitors Deliver Outstanding Performance and Features; New HP Monitors Include Leading Space-saving Technologies at Great Prices

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 1998--Hewlett-Packard Company today announced value-priced monitors featuring new, space-saving, Short Neck CRT display technologies and advanced Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectivity. This range of new HP monitors, shipping today, is expected to start at an estimated street price of just $219 (U.S.)(1).

Greatly expanding the current line of HP monitors, the new HP M700 17-inch (16-inch viewable) and HP M500 (13.8-inch viewable) mainstream, and the HP 50 15-inch (13.7-inch viewable) value monitors are designed specifically to meet the stringent graphical and display demands of today's business applications at a competitive price.

The new HP M700 and M500 mainstream monitors also offer advanced USB connectivity through an optional USB hub device designed to fit into the tilt-and-swivel base of the monitor. This hub device enables users to connect USB devices such as a keyboard, mouse or scanner to their PCs through the base of their HP monitors.

NEW MONITOR FEATURES

The new HP M700 17-inch monitor delivers an extra-fine, 0.26mm dot pitch with Super Hi-Contrast and Dynamic Focus Technology for excellent screen performance. Combined with innovative, Short Neck technology to reduce tube size, the HP M700 monitor offers an outstanding viewable-display area with the compact footprint of a conventional 15-inch monitor. The HP M700 monitor is expected to have a street price of about $495 (U.S.)(1)

The new HP M500 and HP 50 15-inch monitors have a 0.28mm dot pitch and incorporate improved technologies for the best in display capabilities. Offering great technologies at a price closer to that of a 14-inch monitor, the HP M500 and HP 50 monitors are expected to have an estimated street price of $259 (U.S.) and $219 (U.S.)(1) respectively.

Additional monitor features include the following:

     --   higher refresh rates -- The new HP M700 monitor supports
          resolutions of up to 1,024 x 768 pixels at 85Hz as well as
          1,280 x 1,024 pixels at 75Hz in ergonomic mode. The HP M500
          monitor supports resolutions of up to 1,024 x 768 pixels at
          85Hz with the HP50 monitor supporting 800 x 600 pixels at
          85Hz.

     --   lower emission and power consumption -- The HP M700 and HP
          M500 monitors comply with MPRIII of the Swedish Low Emission
          guidelines for measurement and testing as well as TCO95 for
          low-frequency emissions. The monitors also meet the
          Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Guidelines for
          low power consumption. The HP 50 monitor meets the stringent
          MPRII guidelines.

     --   manageability -- All three monitors are PC98 and DDC2B
          compliant. They can be located remotely and identified for
          asset management through leading DMI-compliant management
          software, such as HP TopTools.

     --   HP quality and warranty -- All HP products are submitted to
          extreme test conditions to meet HP's high quality and
          reliability standards. The HP M700, HP M500 and HP 50
          monitors also include HP's standard limited warranty on
          parts and labor.
