Micron Technology, Inc., to Use Richardson Facility as Design Research and Development Site

BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 1998--Micron Technology, Inc., today announced that after the closing of its pending transaction with Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), it intends to use the Richardson, Texas, facility (formerly known as TwinStar) as a design research and development location. The company intends to locate approximately 100 product designers and development engineers at the facility. In addition, a limited number of information systems staff and other support personnel will be located at the facility.
"We are pleased to be able to utilize the Richardson facility and to be able to take advantage of the highly skilled staff currently located in Dallas and Houston," said Mark Durcan, Chief Technical Officer and Vice President of Research and Development for Micron Technology, Inc.
"The City of Richardson is excited to be adding another world-class semiconductor company to our Telecom Corridor," said Richardson Mayor Gary Slagel. "We are pleased to see this state-of-the-art facility will be used as a valuable asset by Micron."
Micron's transaction with TI remains subject to a number of conditions, including satisfactory completion of due diligence and completion of appropriate agreements with various third parties. In particular, the Company and TI need to obtain the consent of the Italian government as well as each of the partners and bank syndicates to TI's Singapore TECH and Kobe (KTI) joint ventures. The transaction is also subject to customary regulatory approvals. If these conditions are met, the transaction is expected to close in the second half of calendar 1998. There can be no assurance, however, that the pending transaction with TI will be consummated.
