HARBOR Systems Management and Polaris Communications Introduce HARBOR Channel Express with Support for Polaris

HARBOR and Polaris Deliver First PCI ESCON Direct Data Backup/Transfer Solution for Windows NT-to-Mainframe
HARBOR(R) Systems Management, and Polaris Communications Inc. of Beaverton, Oregon, today introduced HARBOR Channel Express 5.1 with support for Polaris, the first solution to provide storage backup of Windows NT open system servers to a mainframe over ESCON.
HARBOR Channel Express is a new storage management solution that enables backup and recovery, file transfer, gateway, and data sharing functionality between Windows NT and mainframes.
Ultra-high-speed data movement provided by the HARBOR Channel Express is achieved by moving data over native 17MBps ESCON channels, rather than over slower backbone networks. The HARBOR Channel Express can reach transfer speeds in excess of 50 gigabytes per hour. In addition to dramatically reducing the time needed to transfer gigabytes of data, this new solution relieves congestionon backbone networks freeing them to do other work. This is a direct result of HARBOR software utilizing mainframe I/O channels and CPU cycles on the mainframe being reduced.
Combining HARBOR Gateway with HARBOR Channel Express allows many clients and agents to use a single ESCON channel concurrently.
