Executive From TLC The Laser Center Inc. Joins LaserSight Incorporated Board of Directors

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BW HealthWire)--Aug. 4, 1998--LaserSight Incorporated (Nasdaq: LASE) has expanded its board of directors to nine positions to include a representative of TLC The Laser Center Inc. (Nasdaq: LZRCF). Gary F. Jonas, TLC executive vice president of strategic growth, has led TLC's marketing and business development for the past year. On June 8, 1998, TLC purchased $8 million worth of LaserSight preferred stock via a private placement.
LaserSight Chief Executive Officer Michael Farris says that Jonas' participation on LaserSight's board of directors is further evidence of the collaboration of LaserSight's leading technology and one of the most prestigious providers of laser vision correction resulting in a winning combination for the industry and the investors of both companies.
"LaserSight is an exciting, growing company," says Jonas. "And I'm particularly delighted to be joining the board at this time." For four years before his TLC position, Jonas was the founder and chief executive officer of 20/20 Laser Centers, which was acquired by TLC in 1997. Prior to that, Jonas was the president of Earle Palmer Brown, a U.S. advertising agency. Prior to that, he was the chief executive officer of University Research Corporation, a human services management consulting and training organization. He holds a bachelor's degree in operations research from Columbia University and a master's of business administration from Harvard University.
TLC The Laser Center is the largest provider of vision correction services in North America, with more than 45 centers and a network of more than 7,000 affiliated doctors.
LaserSight Incorporated provides technology solutions for laser refractive surgery and other innovative medical applications, especially in the vision correction industry. The company sells its products in more than 30 countries. In the United States, LaserSight's refractive scanning laser system has had a pending pre-market approval application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration since May of this year, and is not yet commercially available in that market.
