Business Wire, August 5, 1998
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 1998--SPSS Inc. is making its move today, as the company relocates its worldwide corporate headquarters to the Sears Tower. Formerly located on five floors at 444 N. Michigan Ave., the leading developer of desktop data analysis software will now occupy the 11th and 12th floors - a total of 100,000 square feet - of the Sears Tower. More than half of the company's nearly 800 total employees worldwide will work at the new headquarters. The new address and phone number is:
SPSS Inc.
233 S. Wacker Drive
11th Floor
Chicago, IL 60606-6307
312-651-3000
The expansion is a direct result of business growth and acquisitions for the 30 year-old company. SPSS President and CEO Jack Noonan said, "This is an exciting move for SPSS. With all employees on two floors instead of five, SPSS staff can better communicate with other departments and increase teamwork. This kind of interaction can only enhance the development of SPSS products. Sears Tower is a world-class address for our world-class high-tech corporate staff."

The new office space features a high-tech look and a "democratic" workspace configuration - the largest population of employee workspace is located near the greatest amount of natural light, while most private offices are located in the interior of the space. The new facility features two, 1000-square feet, state-of the art training classrooms which will house the more than 150 customer training sessions held each year. SPSS has added a new, in-house usability lab, designed to allow SPSS employees to observe the use of SPSS products by customers in order to gauge their reaction as they navigate the interface and perform normal tasks with the software. Architects from Soloman, Cordwell, Buenz and Associates designed the office space and Abacus International Inc. coordinated the ergonomically correct furniture for the project. Both are located in downtown Chicago.
