Chaparral Completes Acquisition of Adaptec's External Storage Systems Division; Combined Storage Products Offer a Comprehensive Line of Storage Area Network Solutions

LONGMONT, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1998--Chaparral Technologies, a leading provider of storage networking solutions, today announced it has completed the acquisition of Adaptec's External Storage Systems Division in exchange for a minority equity position in Chaparral.

As a result of the acquisition, Chaparral will receive certain technologies and assets for the development of External RAID Controllers, adding to its existing line of Enabler(tm) Storage Routers.
