Business Wire, Dec 15, 1998
CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1998--Convergys Corporation, the global leader in providing outsourced, integrated, customer care and billing services, announced today it has signed a five-year customer care contract with TeleCorp PCS, one of AT&T Wireless' lead affiliates. Convergys will help support TeleCorp in the area of inbound customer care functions in English and Spanish. Services will include telesales, activation, billing inquiries, and technical assistance.
TeleCorp will provide TDMA-based digital wireless service to customers in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette, Louisiana; Memphis, TN; Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Hot Springs, Fort Smith, and northwest Arkansas; and in areas surrounding Boston and St. Louis. This area covers more than 11 million people and TeleCorp's network will be fully compatible with AT&T' s national digital PCS network. TeleCorp will introduce service in early 1999.
"TeleCorp will distinguish its service with a simple-to-buy, easy-to-use philosophy, which is dependent upon consistent and quality customer care. Convergys gives us the ability and the fundamental tools we need to meet our mission," said Gerald T. Vento, CEO of TeleCorp. "Furthermore, Convergys is the industry leader, and it has demonstrated its reliability again and again."
"Convergys has provided billing and customer care support for PCS carriers since they were start-ups just two years ago. Now those start-ups are major carriers in an industry that serves millions of customers and continues to experience rapid growth. That's one reason Convergys is proud to be part of TeleCorp's launch as a new PCS provider in 10 states," said Dave Dougherty, president of Convergys Customer Management Group. "Using Convergys' outsourced expertise will support TeleCorp's efforts to focus on its core competencies such as building infrastructure, launching service, and growing its business throughout its service area. It also supports Convergys' strategy of focusing on communications and other high-growth markets, on leading companies, and on long-term client relationships."
"This decision reinforces our plan to provide superior customer care in each of the markets we serve," said Scott Weismiller, TeleCorp's vice president of customer care. "Convergys' support, combined with our call center, will ensure that we deliver on our promise of making TeleCorp's service hassle-free and easy for our customers."
