HP Multifunction Peripheral Integrating Pixel Magic's
High-Performance Compression Technology Wins Coveted
Award in MFP Category
The coveted Most Valuable Product (MVP) Award, presented by PC Computing Magazine, was recently awarded to Hewlett-Packard Company for its LaserJet 3100 printer-fax-copier-scanner, which takes advantage of the powerful image compression capabilities of the PM-2mc from Pixel Magic, a wholly owned subsidiary of Oak Technology (NASDAQ:OAKT).
The 1998 MVP Awards span 96 product categories, making the MVP Award-winner roster an invaluable buyer's guide. PC Computing's editors conducted an exhaustive review of thousands of Internet, digital office, software and hardware products, evaluating them for usability, performance, technology, innovation and value. The LaserJet 3100 All-in-One claimed the 1998 MVP award in the multifunction fax-copier-printer category.
"The HP LaserJet 3100 All-in-One has been judged the best in its class by our tough panel of editors, who are uncompromising technology experts," said PC Computing editor Wendy Taylor. "The HP LaserJet 3100 is the multifunction device of choice for business technology buyers because it gives business professionals a strategic, competitive advantage in the workplace."
The HP LaserJet 3100 offers fast laser printing, full-featured business fax capabilities, quality convenience copying, and scanning functionality in a single device. It is able to perform multiple functions at once and store up to
150 pages in only 2MB of memory by taking advantage of the multi-tasking capabilities and high-performance JBIG compression offered by the Pixel Magic PM-2mc.
The PM-2mc compression processor is a member of Pixel Magic's iCODEC family of high-performance imaging codecs which offer high-speed JBIG compression, G3/G4 compression, scaling, rotation, and clipping in a single, cost-effective device. JBIG technology increases compression ratios by up to 180 percent over G4 compression resulting in reduced system memory costs and decreased transmission times.
Pixel Magic's iCODEC family also features advanced multitasking. This functionality allows MFPs to complete multi-threaded operations while switching between several active tasks. The iCODEC family is offered in several versions to meet a variety of application, design and budget requirements.
"We are committed to developing cutting-edge compression technology to increase the quality and performance our customers receive from their imaging products," said Peter Besen, president of Pixel Magic. "We see the MVP award for the HP LaserJet 3100 All-in-One as a recognition of the technical excellence Pixel Magic brings to the digital office equipment domain as a silicon provider."
