ObjectSpace Sweeps Awards at Java Business Expo; Voyager and JGL Receive Prestigious Editors' Choice Awards
Business Wire, Dec 16, 1998
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 1998--ObjectSpace Inc., a leading provider of distributed computing solutions built on 100% Pure Java, Wednesday announced that its industry-acclaimed products, Voyager and JGL-The Generic Collection Library for Java, have won three awards at the Java Business Expo: the Editors' Choice Award from JavaWorld for both JGL and Voyager, and the Editor's Choice award from Java Developer's Journal (JDJ) for JGL.
All awards were presented Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the Java Business Expo (JBE) trade show in New York City in recognition of outstanding products, companies and individuals who use Java to develop, plan and deploy mission-critical applications.
"We are honored that two leading industry publications have recognized Voyager and JGL as best-of-class solutions," said David Norris, president, chief executive officer and co-founder of ObjectSpace. "These awards evidence our commitment to delivering solutions to our customers that both leverage the latest Java technologies and provide significant value."
The JavaWorld Editors' Choice Award was presented to ObjectSpace for its industry-acclaimed Voyager distributed computing platform, and judges selected Voyager based on the following evaluation: "Voyager moves distributed computing for Java far beyond simple RMI. Voyager is so easy to use and so well-integrated with the Java concept of interfaces, it belies the raw power of the mobile agent system that is available under the hood. This is what distributed computing should be!"
Another JavaWorld Editors' Choice Award was given for JGL, winning for Java-class libraries. Judges in this category noted: "The original collections package for Java, ObjectSpace's JGL has defined what a full-featured collections API for Java could be. And by making the library easily available from their Web site at no charge, ObjectSpace has contributed to the good of Java as a whole."
The JavaWorld awards process began back in September, with a distinguished panel of 21 judges who are expert Java developers and who have been working with Java since its inception. Judges participated in several rounds of votes and runoffs to determine which products and companies most deserved finalist status, and ultimately, which deserved to be selected as winners.
Judges carefully weighed each product's features and functions, as well as the impact of each product, company and individual in advancing Java as a language and/or platform. Java Developer's Journal also honored superior Java products with its Editor's Choice Awards, in which ObjectSpace was honored, winning for JGL.
To qualify for the award, products had to be directly related to Java, of interest to JDJ readers, and considered a new product (available less than two years). "We are very pleased to see Voyager win Java Developer's Journal prestigious Editor's Choice Award," said Sean Rhody, editor in chief of Java Developer's Journal. "It is an honor for us to recognize products that provide efficient business solutions with Java."
