Lycos and AdOne's ClassifiedWarehouse.com Create Online Alliance; The Web's Most Comprehensive Classified Listings Come to Lycos.com

Business Wire, Dec 2, 1998

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 1998--Lycos, Inc., (NASDAQ:LCOS) the second most visited Internet portal, and AdOne Classified Network, today announced an alliance to bring the Web's most complete classified listings to Lycos.com. AdOne's ClassifiedWarehouse.com will provide daily updated classified listings on the Lycos.com homepage and within the Shopping Web Guide. Future plans call for expanded classified listings within additional Lycos Web Guides.

Industry experts predict the $123 million online classifieds market will grow to nearly $2 billion by 2002. In this fast-growing market, ClassifiedWarehouse.com features the most comprehensive collection of premium classified advertisements from more than 400 U.S. newspapers and leading online providers. Lycos.com is part of the Lycos Network, the second most visited hub on the Internet with an audience reach of 44.5 percent.

To access classified ads, Lycos users can either click on the "Classifieds" link located on the Lycos.com home page or enter the Shopping Web Guide. The user can then select from 11 popular consumer categories, including employment, real estate (both for sale and rent), autos, pets, animals and general merchandise. After clicking on a category, the user can quickly drill down to a specific region or state, and find out about product features, availability, price and other relevant information. If the product meets the buyer's specifications, the user simply contacts the advertiser directly either by telephone or e-mail. The transaction is then settled between the two parties.

"At Lycos we constantly strive to offer our customers more valuable and informative resources," said Jan Horsfall, vice president of marketing at Lycos. "Lycos users can now access classified listings from hundreds of daily and weekly newspapers, as well as online classified sites, all in one place."

"This is a big win for ClassifiedWarehouse.com and our affiliates because this is the first time a newspaper and Web classified network has entered into such a profound distribution agreement with a top Internet leader like Lycos," said Brendan Burns, president and CEO of AdOne Classified Network. "Aligning ClassifiedWarehouse.com with Lycos enables our Network affiliates to deliver unprecedented reach for their advertisers to a premium Internet audience."
