BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 23, 1998--

Tidalwave 56K: "Editor's Choice" and "Excellent" Says Network

Computing and Equip Magazines, Rates Top 10 in PC World Magazine

Boca Research, Inc. (Nasdaq:BOCI), long committed to the research and development of leading-edge technology, today announced it has received industry awards for its Tidalwave (TM) 56K modem products from Network Computing and Equip magazines. Additionally, the Tidalwave 56K External Speakerphone Modem made PC World magazine's Top 10 External Modem roundup in the December 1998 issue.

Network Computing gave the Tidalwave 56K Fax/Data Modem "Editor's Choice" in the November 1998 issue, saying, "Solid performance helped Boca's 56K Tidalwave earn our Editor's Choice award." --Network Computing editors and lab technicians also sited the Tidalwave's simple installation, easy-to-read LEDs and small footprint as contributing factors in the Tidalwave's appointment as "Editor's Choice."

Equip magazine awarded the Tidalwave 56K External Speakerphone Modem with its highest rating, "Excellent," in the November 1998 issue, saying, "it was the most consistent at making fast connections across both clean and noisy phone lines." The article also highlighted the Tidalwave's line speed sensing feature where the modem can automatically sense a V.90 or K56flex connection, solid QuickLink (TM) III bundled software and its competitive price.

"We are very pleased to receive industry recognition for our Tidalwave modems," said Henricus Cox, Boca's Vice President of Marketing. "What we particularly liked was the confirmation that our Tidalwave 56K products make fast, consistent, and reliable connections, all at a competitive price," Cox concluded.

The Tidalwave 56K family consists of V.90 ready internal and external fax/modems with or without speakerphone capabilities. All Tidalwave 56K modems come packed with software specifically designed to enhance the user's Internet experience. Failsafe Downloads software will automatically take you back to where you were on the Web after an interrupted connection, and resumes downloads from where they left off. AutoMax software senses what technology your ISP is using and automatically switches to V.90 or K56flex for maximum connection speed. Modem teaming software doubles your on-line speed up to 112Kbps by linking two modems together. Boca Tidalwave 56K products allow customers to choose among Internet browsers, Netscape (R) Communicator or Windows Internet Explorer(R). Popular on-line services and ISP software are also included. "No matter which model you choose, the Boca modems are first-class," says Les Freed, contributing editor, PC Magazine, December 15, 1998 issue.
