USinternetworking, Inc. (USi), the first and leading Application Service Provider (ASP), will be offering a full, four-year scholarship to the University of Maryland, beginning with the fall 1999 term, to a senior at Annapolis High School in Annapolis, Md.
The recipient of the scholarship will receive full tuition, room and board, a summer internship at USi, and a position at USi upon graduation. Applicants must be students in good standing at Annapolis High School and maintain at least a B average in an information systems degree program at the university's College Park campus.
"One of the reasons we decided to base USi in Annapolis is because of the talent pool and quality of life in the area," said Christopher R. McCleary, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of USi.
"This is one way of giving back to our community and assisting a bright, talented student at Annapolis High School to receive an excellent education and the promise of a job in Annapolis after graduation."
"I stand by anything that local businesses can do to increase the ability of people in the area to achieve their full potential and in turn contribute further to the community," said David Collier, USi's Senior Director of Business Planning and chair of the scholarship selection committee.
"As an alumnus of nearby Severna Park High School, I feel a personal commitment toward helping others to perpetuate this cycle," said Collier, who received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Maryland.
The deadline for students to apply for the scholarship is Friday, January 22, 1999. The scholarship selection committee, composed of University of Maryland alumni who work at USi, will announce the winning candidate on February 1, 1999.
