CMP's Electronic Buyers' News Identifies the 25 Executives to Watch in the Electronics Industry

Business Wire, Dec 24, 1998

MANHASSET, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 24, 1998--CMP Media's Electronic Buyers' News, the industry newspaper for purchasing and business management, has published its annual Hot 25 list of executives who made their mark on the electronics industry this year.

"One universal trait among this year's 25 is their decisiveness under fire," said Matthew Sheerin, the publication's editor-in-chief. "Texas Instruments' Thomas Engibous made one of the boldest moves, shepherding TI's exit from the memory business. Perhaps equally brave was Micron Technology's Steve Appleton, who steered the company toward the purchase of that operation," he said of two of the honorees.

This year's picks, Sheerin added, also include Dell Computer's Michael Dell, Apple's Steve Jobs, and AMD's Jerry Sanders--not because they regularly receive scads of publicity, but because their accomplishments were particularly noteworthy. "In addition, others who were determined to be different succeeded," Sheerin said. "Broadcom's stock and technology, for example, are alluring largely due to the technical and business acumen of company co-founders Henry Nicholas and Henry Samueli, as well as to their ability to strike out on their own and call market needs correctly."
