Business Wire, Dec 7, 1998
ROCHESTER, N.H. and MEXICO CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1998--
Collaboration with Gedas North America and Grupo Orion
key to network reliability
Further affirming the global acceptance of its Smart Networking strategy, Cabletron Systems today announced that its network components have helped Volkswagen-Mexico's network infrastructure maintain impressive 99.98% uptime performance.
The network, designed and supported in collaboration with Berlin, Germany-based IT consulting firm Gedas North America and Mexican Synergy Plus partner Grupo Orion, is the nerve center of the Volkswagen Americas network that links the automaker's 180 regional vendors and suppliers and 4,200 users.
"We've repeatedly specified Cabletron equipment for our clients because it meets our stringent requirements for performance, durability and service," said Fernando Linares, Gedas North America network specialist. "This was especially important for the Volkswagen-Mexico network; there are areas in the plant that are subject to electrical fluctuations, dust and excessive heat."
Support services provided by solution integrator Grupo Orion, based in Puebla, Pue., Mexico have bolstered the durability of the network as well. The firm provides onsite and telephone support that enables the network to operate at peak efficiency, and is assisting Volkswagen-Mexico with an infrastructure migration from a routed backbone to Cabletron Layer 3 switches.
"The collaboration between Cabletron and Grupo Orion is another example of how we work in concert with our Synergy Plus partners," said Jim Sims, Cabletron Systems' executive vice president for Latin America and the Caribbean. "Our ongoing training and support enables them to provide a complete service to Gedas North America."
