Micron Internet Services And WBS Cable Announce XSspeed!, Wireless High-Speed Internet Access Services for Homes and Businesses in the Treasure Valley
Business Wire, Dec 7, 1998
BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1998--Micron Internet Services, a division of Micron Technology, Inc. (NYSE:MU), ("Micron") and WBS Cable TV ("WBS") announced today their partnership to launch XSspeed!(SM), a high-speed Internet service in the Treasure Valley.
XSspeed! provides Internet access from Micron via WBS' wireless service. The connection to the Internet is made through Micron's dial up services, and the requested information is returned via high-speed microwave at speeds up to 50 times faster than standard dial-up modems. XSspeed!'s service area encompasses a 70-mile line of sight radius from Deer Point.
"XSspeed! is ideal for data-hungry home and business Internet users, needing affordable, high-speed access to connect a single computer or an entire computer network to the Internet," says Todd Chavez, Micron Internet Services' marketing manager. "In addition, unlike getting a high-speed connection through a telephone company, XSspeed! can be up and running in most homes or offices within days."
"We are excited to work with Micron Internet Services in introducing the benefits of this new wireless service to the Treasure Valley," says XSSpeed!'s General Manager, Tami Morrison. "Using XSspeed!, the speed at which a customer can download web sites and audio, video or graphics files is greatly improved."
XSspeed! is offered in speeds tailored to meet customers' needs in increments of 256, 512 and 1,540 kilobits per second (kbps). XSspeed! monthly service offerings for a single PC connection start at $49.95 for 256-kbps, in addition to a $600 cable modem and installation cost. Monthly pricing to connect an entire computer network starts at $159.95 for 256-kbps service, in addition to a $1200 cable modem and installation cost.
All prices include 500MB of data download per month. Additional blocks of data download are priced at $10 per 500MB block. The above prices and terms are current prices and terms only and are subject to change at any time. For complete information, call 342-6333, or visit both Micron's XSspeed!
