SilverStream Includes JDK 1.2 Technology to
Increase Performance and Reliability on the Solaris(tm) Platform
SilverStream Software today announced support for the next release of Sun Microsystems, Inc.'s Java(tm) Development Kit (JDK(tm) version 1.2). SilverStream will incorporate JDK 1.2 technology in its enterprise application server, available for Sun's Solaris(tm) operating environment in the first quarter of 1999.
Sun's JDK 1.2, made available today at the Java Business Expo, provides a rich feature set of new class libraries and tools, making it easier than ever for developers to create portable, distributed, enterprise-class applications. SilverStream's support of JDK 1.2 will significantly enhance the performance of the company's enterprise application server running on the Solaris platform.
"The SilverStream Application Server is recognized as a robust, high performance development and deployment environment known for its scalability and enterprise readiness. Our support for JDK version 1.2 for the Solaris operating environment will enable us to provide exceptional performance and scalability across the enterprise, raising the bar on speed and reliability delivered by applications built on SilverStream," said David Skok, founder and chairman of SilverStream.
Skok added that the move to support JDK 1.2 will provide SilverStream's customers running on Solaris with an even more feature-rich environment for developing and deploying enterprise-class applications.
"By adding the functionality of the JDK 1.2 technology platform, the SilverStream Application Server is now more secure, scalable and robust," said Jon Kannegaard, vice president and general manager of the Java platform at Sun Microsystems, Inc.'s Java Software. "SilverStream truly recognizes the business value that the JDK 1.2 platform holds for the enterprise."
