Turner Awarded $17.6 Million Contract to Construct Office Building in McLean, Virginia for Boston-based TA Associates Realty
Business Wire, Dec 9, 1998
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 1998--The Washington, D.C., office of Turner Construction, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Turner Corporation (AMEX:TUR), the nation's leading general builder, has been awarded a $17.6 million contract for the construction of a 387,000-gross-square-foot office building and parking garage in McLean, Virginia, for TA Associates Realty, based in Boston, Massachusetts.
The project, known as 8270 Greensboro Drive, is slated for completion in December 1999. Construction began in September 1998. Turner is the general contractor for the project. The project architect is Weihe Design Group, Washington, D.C.
The building features nine, above-grade levels, two of which are reserved for parking. It also includes three underground parking levels, for a total of 592 spaces.
The site for the office building is located alongside a health club and connected parking lot. Says Jeb Turner III, Turner vice president and general manager of the Washington, D.C. office: "Although this office building is in a suburban location, site logistics are tight, similar to those of a downtown project, because of the project's proximity to an existing health club. As a result, carefully planned site logistics are especially important for this assignment."
Current projects for Turner's Washington, D.C., office include the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters in Washington, America Online Creative Center II in Dulles, Virginia, and the Upper Chesapeake Hospital and Ambulatory Center in Bel Air, Maryland.
The Turner Corporation, through Turner Construction Company and other construction subsidiaries, is the nation's leading general builder. During 1997, The Turner Corporation completed in excess of $3.6 billion of construction.
