Swissair to Introduce New Gateway and Non-Stop Service Between San Francisco and Zurich

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 1998--

With the "Golden Gate" City, Swissair now serves 150 destinations

in 74 countries

One year earlier than originally planned, on May 27, 1998 Swissair will introduce non-stop MD-11 service between San Francisco and Zurich, Switzerland.

The announcement was made by Walter Vollenweider, Swissair's general manager for North and South America, who said, "We are very pleased to have this opportunity to expand our service on the West Coast and better serve passengers to and from the growing Northern California/Northwest North American region. Our partner Delta Air Lines is especially happy that they will now be able to offer their passengers Swissair service to and from Europe and this area."

Swissair will operate five weekly flights from the airline's new gateway, this being the airline's tenth in the USA. Others include: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and Washington.

Operating Sunday, and Tuesday through Friday, Swissair flight 109 will depart San Francisco at 10:05 pm and arrive Zurich at 6:05 pm. From Zurich, Swissair flight 108 will depart at 4:25 pm and arrive San Francisco at 7:15 pm.

Swissair operates one of the industry's youngest fleets, with aircraft an average age of five years.
