Ballard Receives C$2.5 Million Order from Honda for Portable Fuel Cell Systems

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 5, 1998-- Ballard Power System(TSE:BLD.) (NASDAQ:BLDPF) Ballard Power Systems Inc. today announced that it had received a C$2.5 million (US$1.7 million) order from Honda R&D Co., Ltd. of Japan, a subsidiary of the Honda Motor Company, for the supply of one kilowatt, low pressure, portable Ballard Fuel Cell systems. Honda will integrate the fuel cell systems into portable power and specialty applications operating on hydrogen for demonstration, testing and product development.

Low power Ballard Fuel Cells operating at low pressure are air cooled, simple, quiet, reliable and particularly suited for the requirements of portable and some stationary power applications. Providing clean and efficient power, low pressure fuel cells add to Ballard's product line, which include pressurized fuel cells which are targeted at high power transportation and stationary applications.
