MedCath Definitive Proxy Statement Filed With SEC and Proxy Materials Mailed to Shareholders; Special Meeting of Shareholders to Be Held July 30, 1998

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 1998--MedCath Incorporated (NASDAQ/NMS:MCTH) today announced that the definitive Proxy Statement relating to the proposed acquisition of MedCath by a new company formed by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe was filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on July 9, 1998. Proxy materials were mailed today to shareholders of record as of June 22, 1998, in advance of the Company's special meeting of shareholders which will be held on July 30, 1998.
The special meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. local time on July 30, 1998, at Raintree Country Club, 8600 Raintree Lane, Charlotte, North Carolina. If the merger is approved by the shareholders, the transaction is expected to close shortly after the date of the meeting.
MedCath Incorporated is a provider of cardiology and cardiovascular services through the operation of specialized facilities and the management of physician practices. The Company operates four specialty heart hospitals and has four additional heart hospitals under development, manages six medical practices comprised of approximately 115 physicians, manages fixed-site cardiac diagnostic and therapeutic centers, and owns and operates mobile cardiac catheterization laboratories serving networks of hospitals.
