Gateway Assisting Clients in Transition to Windows 98

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 1998--Gateway (NYSE: GTW), a global leader in the direct marketing of PCs, today announced it is offering Windows(R) 98 upgrade assistance through Gateway's Upgrade Companion CD, Upgrade Booklet and technical support. Windows 98 is standard or available as an option on Gateway(TM) G-Series, GP-Series, E-Series, Destination(R) digital media computer (DMC) and Solo(R) mobile products. The products are Windows 98 compatible.

Upgrade Solutions

Gateway is shipping an Upgrade Booklet and Upgrade Companion CD with each copy of the Windows 98 upgrade software. Gateway's Upgrade Booklet identifies issues clients may encounter as they upgrade and contains step-by-step directions to resolve them. The Upgrade Companion CD contains software fixes for the issues identified in the Upgrade Booklet. The Upgrade Companion CD includes the latest Windows 98 compatible drivers for components shipped on Gateway PCs during the previous year. The Upgrade Companion CD also incorporates a browser that identifies the hardware in a client's system and helps with the installation of drivers and fixes appropriate to the system.

Gateway.com, the company's Web site, will soon feature a page with links to appropriate drivers and fixes.
