Pride International Turns to J.D. Edwards for Integrated Global Solution
Business Wire, July 13, 1998
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998--
Oil and Gas Drilling Contractor Expands Internationally, Selects
J.D. Edwards as Its Worldwide Standard
Enterprise business software developer J.D. Edwards(R) (NASDAQ:JDEC) announced today that Pride International Inc. (NYSE:PDE), one of the world's largest oil- and gas-well drilling contractors, has selected J.D. Edwards' enterprise resource planning software as its worldwide standard.
Pride has been a J.D. Edwards customer for nearly a decade, and over the past few years has gone through significant changes, divesting itself of domestic onshore operations and concentrating on the international market. Since mid-1993, Pride has acquired 14 businesses as well as numerous individual rig assets.
"We are continuing to make significant international acquisitions -- especially in South America," said Yvonne Donohoe, CIO at Pride International.
"It is imperative that Pride's application systems and technology meet the new challenges posed by working in a global business environment -- such as multiple languages, laws and currencies. Local support of our offshore, South American and remote operations was also a key factor in selecting J.D. Edwards. Altogether, Pride is increasing its number of worldwide users from 80 to more than 350."
In the past, Pride has licensed J.D. Edwards' host-centric WorldSoftware(TM) payroll, human resources, financial and logistics/distribution application suites, which the company used at its Houston headquarters on an IBM AS/400(R) platform. The WorldSoftware financial applications suite was also used for Pride's eastern Venezuela land operation.
J.D. Edwards' network-centric OneWorld(TM) solution, which includes the payroll (in the United States), human resources, financial and logistics/distribution applications suites, will be the standard for Pride's Houston headquarters, offshore operations in Houma, La., international operations in Paris, and Colombian operations in Bogota. The underlying technology at all of these sites will be Hewlett-Packard Intel servers running the Microsoft NT operating system and SQL Server database.
Updated versions of WorldSoftware, including financial and logistics/distribution suites, will be the standard for the Venezuelan, Argentine and Bolivian operations, which will continue to run on AS/400 hosts.
"The business imperative behind Pride's decision to undertake this project was the need to standardize global operations to facilitate future rapid international growth -- and to do so quickly and economically," said Donohoe. "We needed to replace a collection of existing applications with a single, robust, scalable system. We were also driven by the need to prepare for the year 2000."
