Business Objects Customers Speak Out On WebIntelligence 2.0 and Their Enterprise Decision Support Strategy
Business Wire, July 13, 1998
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998--
Web-based enterprise query, reporting, and OLAP tool gives customers flexibility to deploy mixture of thin- or full-clients to
meet exact business intelligence needs
With the capabilities of web-based enterprise computing evolving at a rapid pace, it is essential that information technology (IT) decision-makers leave open the option to deploy either thin- or full-client tools to support their decision support system (DSS) architecture.
This announcement explores how Business Objects customers are using WebIntelligence(TM) 2.0 to take advantage of its shared infrastructure with BusinessObjects(tm), the company's flagship, full-client tool for enterprise decision support. (Editor's note: see related news releases dated July 13, 1998.)
WebIntelligence 2.0 is a new release of the company's enterprise query, reporting, and online analytical processing (OLAP) tool for the world wide web. Along with new features for extranet deployments, WebIntelligence 2.0 offers enterprise customers-such as Penske Logistics and Bankers Trust (both profiled below)-a new OLAP module for drilling and charting, and numerous new options for report creation and distribution.
Penske Logistics, a provider of logistics services for companies that ship large quantities of goods and materials, plans to use WebIntelligence 2.0 to give its employees immediate access to business intelligence pulled from its corporate data. A subsidiary of Penske Truck Leasing, Penske Logistics currently uses BusinessObjects to track a myriad of factors that determine the efficiency of products shipped. These variables include distance of route, fuel mileage, number of delivery points, length of time spent at each delivery point, and size of delivery for each stop. Now with WebIntelligence 2.0, Penske Logistics will be able to provide this data directly to its management team via the web, allowing them to customize the reports and drill down for further analysis whenever necessary.
"The ability to provide this data directly to our management team via the web is extremely important," said Tom Nather, senior systems analyst, Penske Logistics. "Everyone from vice presidents to logistic center managers rely on this data, and with WebIntelligence we can provide a consistent, easily administered interface that will allow them to customize the information they receive any way they like it."
Another WebIntelligence 2.0 beta customer is Bankers Trust, a New York-based global bank with $157 billion in assets and more than 50 offices around the world. Bankers Trust is evaluating WebIntelligence to quickly create and publish reports to its employees, thereby forgoing the delays and distribution issues associated with paper-based reports. Bankers Trust hopes to deploy WebIntelligence 2.0, along with the BusinessObjects full client software and inhouse developed products, to provide a total reporting solution for 250 credit users worldwide.
