IBM'S Transarc Enhances Its Enterprise File Systems Offerings for the Desktop; AFS Connect Provides Easy to Use, Cost-Effective File System Access
Business Wire, July 14, 1998
PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 14, 1998--IBM's Transarc subsidiary today announced AFS Connect, which allows Macintosh, NetWare and Windows users access to the powerful and dependable AFS(1) Enterprise File System without the need for additional software on the desktop.
AFS Connect integrates Transarc's AFS with Syntax's TotalNET Advanced Server, and gives administrators decreased costs typically associated with enabling PC applications for full-featured file system access. AFS goes beyond basic file systems access, enabling users to access and share application resources, providing corporations with a common infrastructure to manage and integrate business information.
Enterprise File Systems allow companies to share, find and manage large files of information, such as web pages, CATIA drawings and word processing documents, across a global computing network.
"As companies grow and expand, a common enterprise environment, stretched across multiple platforms, is essential for efficient and effective project work and cooperative activities," said Chris Maher, vice president, Enterprise File Systems, Transarc Corpoby increasing secure enterprise file system accogies creates a new value proposition for our cl functionality of AFS to Microsoft, NetWare, aystem.
