EarthLink Named 1998 "Super Deal" by Money Magazine; Combination of Speed, Reliability, Value and Coverage of Local Access Numbers Cited as Best On the Net
Business Wire, July 15, 1998
PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 15, 1998--EarthLink Network Inc. (Nasdaq:ELNK) added another prestigious trophy to its case Wednesday, earning the title "Technology Super Deal" in Money magazine's July 1998 issue.
The story touted EarthLink as the best overall value among Internet Service Providers (ISPs) based on price, speed, reliability and the widespread availability of local access numbers.
In their review, Money editors said EarthLink members experience fewer busy signals than AOL customers, and EarthLink costs less. The write-up also observed that the company's alliance with Sprint, "...should mean even more speed and reliability, even fewer busy signals, and less down time."
"It's quite an honor to get this kind of recognition from a publication as widely read and respected as Money," said Sky Dayton, founder and chairman of EarthLink. "Naturally, we believe the overall value we provide our members is unsurpassed in the industry. But to get kudos like that from Money is a great endorsement for EarthLink."
To select its 1998 Super Deals, Money's editorial staff spent two months conducting research and analysis and consulting the experts in 175 different categories. The results, listed in its July 1998 issue, are the cream of the crop in fields as varied as travel, technology, shopping, cars and services.
"In the ISP category, we figure bigger is not better," according to the editors at Money. "Consider: America Online has 12 million members served by 1,900 local access numbers. EarthLink has about 1/18 the membership and 1,300 numbers. Which do you think is more likely to give you a busy signal?"
In the past year, EarthLink also garnered PC Magazine's Editors' Choice award and Mobile Computing's First Class award. For more information about EarthLink Sprint Internet service or any of EarthLink's other Internet products and services, call 800/395-8425, or visit www.earthlink.net.
