Media 100 Inc. Approves Compaq Professional Workstation 6000; For Use with Media 100 qx for Windows NT

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 1998--Media 100 Inc. (NASDAQ:MDEA), developer of the award-winning FINISH(TM) and MEDIA 100 digital video systems, today announces it has approved Compaq's Professional Workstations 6000 systems for use with MEDIA 100 qx for Windows NT. Compaq's Professional Workstations 6000 systems contain a unique parallel bus architecture which supports increased data transfers and yields faster performance than many other Windows NT workstations.

Media 100 Inc.'s certification process for MEDIA 100 qx for Windows NT included thorough application testing, environmental testing in extreme temperatures and power supply conditions, and testing with various third party peripheral products with the Compaq Professional Workstation 6000. The application process is performed continuously over 12 hours and subjects the entire system to profound uses of the software.
As a certified compatible computer system, the Compaq Professional Workstations 6000 will be supported under Media 100's PLATINUM Technical Support packages. Media 100 Inc. maintains its place as the only manufacturer to test, certify and support third party solutions.
MEDIA 100 qx for Windows NT will support up to 300 kb/frame data rates when configured with a Compaq Professional Workstation 6000, NT Version 4.0 and Service Pack 3, 128 MB RAM, Ultra Wide SCSI disk drives, Ultra Wide SCSI disk controllers, and a 32 bit Direct Draw compatible PCI graphics card. A single Ultra Wide disk drive and disk controller will support up to 150 kb/frame, higher data rates require additional Ultra Wide SCSI drives and controllers.
