Tivoli Delivers New Release of Market-Leading NetView for OS/390; Provides End-to-End Management of Mainframe, Distributed Environments
Business Wire, July 23, 1998
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 1998--Tivoli Systems Inc., the world's leader in network, systems and applications management, today announced the immediate availability of Tivoli NetView for OS/390 release 1.2, one of the award-winning products in the Tivoli NetView family of solutions for S/390, UNIX, and NT environments. This latest release of Tivoli NetView for OS/390 allows customers to centrally manage the entire enterprise network from the mainframe, including TCP/IP, IPX, and SNA protocols -- with the freedom of a Java-based or browser-based management console. Through the use of new built-in validation tools, Tivoli NetView for OS/390 will dramatically reduce the time it takes to develop and deploy complicated automation routines. With this release, customers can now use a single enterprise network management platform to better manage their global networks from the OS/390 and reduce time spent solving network and systems management problems.
In its latest report, International Data Corporation (IDC) cited Tivoli as the leader in the worldwide management platform market, definitively ahead of its competition. "Tivoli has a decisive leadership role in management platforms" noted R. Paul Mason, senior analyst, IDC. "Tivoli is clearly on a track to making mainframes another agent-based client to the integrated system and network management solution."
"This new version of Tivoli NetView bridges the gap between managing the datacenter and distributed networks through a single management console," said Martin Neath, executive vice president of Tivoli Systems. "Until now, customers were required to use different tools to manage each technology, often with a duplication of information and efforts. Tivoli NetView eliminates this problem by allowing organizations to manage and troubleshoot their networks from a single view, ultimately providing the service-level they need to gain a competitive edge in the marketplace."
Tivoli NetView for OS/390 1.2
Tivoli NetView for OS/390 1.2 provides complete end-to-end systems and network management through the use of a single event tracking mechanism which serves as the "nerve center" of an enterprise. Tivoli NetView collects and correlates data from TCP/IP, Novell NetWare, token-ring, and SNA, as well as Tivoli Enterprise Software resources. Users gain a real-time view of the operation or "health" of the entire network through the Tivoli NetView Management Console.
Tivoli NetView for OS/390 1.2 new capabilities include:
-- Java-based Tivoli Management Console: Designed as an alternative to the existing OS/2 based NGMF, with an intuitive Java-based graphical user interface;
-- Browser-based access: Provides users command line capabilities to Tivoli NetView from any standard browser;
-- Complete automation test environment: Provides customers with the ability to test complex automated procedures before they go into production;
-- TCP/IP resource monitoring and session management: Enables users to display and correlate both SNA and TCP/IP status and connectivity information from the OS/390;
-- Bi-directional event, automation and topology connections: Unites host and distributed solutions to Tivoli Management Software.
