Thomson Investment Software Offers Universe Data from Mobius to its PERAscope Performance Measurement Clients
Business Wire, July 27, 1998
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 27, 1998--Thomson Investment Software now offers users of its PERAscope performance measurement solutions, universe data from North Carolina-based Mobius Group, according to PERAscope General Manager Michael C. Slemmer, CFA.
"Mobius is renown for having some of the most robust and accurate money manager universes of separately managed portfolios. This additional offering will help our clients in all the sectors we serve," Slemmer says. "Mobius uses rigorous quantitative models to assign managers to their appropriate peer groups. That means these universe groupings will give our clients the most appropriate comparisons in the most appropriate timeframes -- bringing even more power to their PERAscope solution."

The universes available to PERAscope clients are comprised of private account managers participating in Mobius' M-Search investment manager database system. The M-Search database includes information on more than 1,300 institutional investment management firms and 5,000 products. More than 460 consultants, pension plan sponsors and investment managers subscribe to M- Search.
Headquartered in Research Triangle Park, N.C., Mobius Group is a leading provider of information and analytical software to investment professionals. According to Vice President Jay Kimple, Mobius Group is glad to have PERAscope clients using Mobius universes: "Mobius has spent a considerable amount of time analyzing ways in which the managers in our M-Search database could be grouped for more accurate performance comparisons. Our agreement with Thomson Investment Software is exciting because it gives us an opportunity to leverage this research by providing high-quality universe data to their PERAscope clients."
The Mobius universe groupings are offered in addition to PERAscope's own collection of recently improved performance reports, Slemmer says. Developed approximately 25 years ago, TIS' well-known Cadence Universe was originally comprised of 2,000 mutual funds, banks and insurance funds. As of July 1998, TIS has added approximately 7,000 new mutual funds to construct the new PERAscope Universe.
These universes are just part of the performance solutions TIS delivers through PERAscope. PERAscope provides performance attribution, measurement and risk-analysis software and solutions through an installed Windows-based system, or as PERAsource, a complete outsourcing solution.
