BSQUARE's bFAX Now Available on All Version 2.0 Windows CE-Based Handheld PCs; bFAX Pro Version 4.0 To Be Released As Upgrade
Business Wire, June 16, 1998
BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1998--BSQUARE(R) Corporation today announced that with the signing of three bundle agreements with manufacturers of Handheld PCs, its bFAX(R) software program has achieved 100% market penetration on units running version 2.0 of the Windows(R) CE operating system that are sold or will be sold in the United States and Europe.
BSQUARE recently signed agreements for bundling bFAX Pro on LG Electronics' Phenom, Hitachi's HPW-200EC, and Novatel Wireless' C-O-N-T-A-C-T.
"Manufacturers have listened to user feedback regarding essential features desired in a Handheld PC, and are responding with fully integrated devices right out of the box," said William Baxter, president and CEO of BSQUARE Corporation. "We are so excited and honored that the industry has unanimously selected BSQUARE's bFAX program as its preferred solution."
"Windows CE-based Handheld PCs are designed to give mobile professionals a desktop-like computing environment," said Jonathan Roberts, group director, consumer appliance group at Microsoft. "bFAX from BSQUARE will provide value to enterprise customers by adding faxing capabilities to Handheld PCs."
BSQUARE publishes two versions of bFAX: bFAX Express, a send-only faxing program, and bFAX Pro, a full featured version for both sending and receiving faxes directly on the Handheld PC. Depending on the device, either program may be bundled directly in the device ROM, requiring no extra installation, or it may be included on a CD of software in the device box.
Other manufacturers currently bundling either bFAX Express or bFAX Pro include Sharp, Hewlett Packard, Ericsson, Casio, Compaq, and Philips.
Retail Release Plans for bFAX Pro 4.0
BSQUARE will publish an update to bFAX Pro, version 4.0, by mid-summer. The new program includes the ability to fax Excel spreadsheets, Contacts, Inbox messages, and more. The new program also includes a new cover page template, which can be customized by the user.
Due to the number of bFAX Pro units already bundled on the devices, BSQUARE will not distribute bFAX Pro in a traditional retail package. Instead, bFAX Pro will be available from BSQUARE's network of electronic software distributors, including BuyDirect.com, Digital River, and Release Software. Users who are interested in upgrading version 4.0 should contact BSQUARE directly at sales@bsquare.com or on the Web at www.bsquare.com for eligibility information and upgrade details.
Persons who may wish to purchase bFAX Pro, version 4.0, include the following:
-- Users who have purchased a Handheld PC bundled with bFAX Express, and would like to upgrade to bFAX Pro
-- Users who have purchased a Handheld PC with bFAX Pro bundled, and wish to obtain the latest version with enhancements including the ability to fax Excel spreadsheets
-- Users outside of the U.S. who have purchased a Handheld PC that does not include bFAX Pro
-- Users who have a Handheld PC running version 1.0 of Windows CE and who do not have bFAX Pro or wish to upgrade an older version of bFAX Pro. bFAX Pro 4.0 is backward compatible with Windows CE 1.0.
The suggested retail price for single user copies is $69.95, with special corporate pricing and programs available. Contact BSQUARE at sales@bsquare.com for details.
