Robert H. West to Retire as Butler Manufacturing CEO In Mid-1999; John J. Holland Elected Executive VP And to Become Next Chief Executive

KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1998--John J. Holland has been elected executive vice president of Butler Manufacturing Company (NYSE: BBR) and is expected to be named the company's chief executive officer in 1999.

He will succeed Robert H. West, the company's current chairman and chief executive officer, who announced his decision to retire from the company and board of directors in mid-1999.

Mr. Holland, 48, has been with Butler for 18 years most recently serving as vice-president-finance and chief financial officer. He is a CPA and received M.B.A. and B.S. degrees from the University of Kansas.

Mr. West, 60, has been with Butler for 29 years and has been chairman and chief executive officer since 1986.

Butler Manufacturing Company is the world's leading producer of pre -engineered building systems and is a supplier of architectural products and construction services for the nonresidential construction market.
