RER Awarded $900,000 Contract with California Energy Commission
Business Wire, June 24, 1998
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 24, 1998--Regional Economic Research (RER) today announced that it has been awarded a $900,000 contract by the California Energy Commission (CEC) to provide technical assistance in the administration of its Renewable Technology Program.
The Renewable Technology Program was established as part of the California electric industry restructuring legislation in 1996 (Assembly Bill 1890). The program will disburse some $540 million to existing, new and emerging renewable energy projects. It will also be used to educate consumers about renewable energy and provide rebates to end-use consumers who purchase renewable energy.
RER will lead a team of consultants in support of the CEC Renewables Program in four major areas: administrative systems design and operation, marketing/pricing analysis, program evaluation, and renewable technology project assessment. The project team will be directed by Frederick D. Sebold, president of RER, and managed by Patrick Lilly, head of RER's Pacific Northwest Office. "Our goal is to help the CEC optimize the means of distributing these funds," says Sebold. "This requires the resolution of a variety of technical issues relating to the administration of the program and its impacts on the energy market."
RER will evaluate key aspects of each program component and the overall Renewable Technology Program. RER will also assess the market potential and evaluate pricing aspects for existing and new renewable energy applicants, including primarily biomass, digester and landfill gas, municipal solid waste, wind, geothermal, small hydroelectric, and solar resources. Emerging renewable resources such as solar photovoltaic, solar thermal-electric, small wind and renewable-fuelbased fuel cell technologies will also be assessed under the technical support contract.
RER is an independently owned leader in the field of energy forecasting, planning and analysis. RER's main office is located in San Diego, with branch offices in Boston and adjacent to Portland, Oregon.
