SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1998--
BIG/ip2 Technology Fortifies Atrieva Service Backend and Supports Unlimited Scaling
F5 Labs, Inc., today announced that Atrieva(R) Corporation has selected the F5 Labs BIG/ip availability-based load balancing technology to ensure a burgeoning subscriber base receives the same reliable service as existing online backup customers. This announcement follows the recent launch of the Netscape Small Business Source, making the Atrieva Service available to over four million Netcenter subscribers.
The Atrieva Service is the leading online backup and retrieval solution. The Service provides customers secure, offsite storage and anytime access to their protected PC files, from any Internet-enabled PC. The BIG/ip dedicated Server Array Controller intelligently allocates Internet requests across a group of heterogeneous network servers, balances the load on their servers, and guarantees secure and high performance access to the Atrieva Service around the clock.
"Atrieva Corporation is widely recognized for delivering easy-to-use and disaster-proof online backup," stated Tom Pettigrew, OEM Sales Manager for F5 Labs. "By assuring users reliable and timely access to their system, we are confident that BIG/ip will help Atrieva Corporation secure their deserved position as the premier Internet backup service."
Atrieva Corporation selected F5's BIG/ip technology because it ideally complements their already proven SafeStation backend technology. BIG/ip contributes a fully redundant, fail-safe technology that can scale to meet any demand and easily handles the secure, encrypted data streams inherent in the Atrieva Service. Atrieva Corporation also appreciated the flexibility demonstrated by F5 Labs.
"Online backup is undergoing tremendous growth. As more consumers choose the Atrieva Service as their file storage solution, we will continue enhancing our service to meet their needs," commented Jon Brown, Vice President, Product Development at Atrieva Corporation. "Our BIG/ip enhanced SafeStation backend servers provide the safest, most secure and scaleable online backup solution available. F5's technology is an ideal match for our service, and we look forward to working with them in the future."

About BIG/ip
BIG/ip is a dedicated Server Array Controller that intelligently allocates Internet and intranet service requests across a group of inexpensive, network servers. Residing between the Internet routers and an array of servers, BIG/ip continually monitors each server for application availability and performance. On the other end, it oversees all incoming Web queries and automatically directs each service request to the most appropriate and available server for subsequent processing. By balancing all of the incoming Web requests across the content servers, the product substantially reduces the number of server failures due to overload conditions.
By detecting application, server, and network failures in advance and routing service requests accordingly, the product essentially guarantees fail-safe, timely responses to user queries. Moreover, BIG/ip stands alone due to the fact that the product itself has complete, built-in redundancy. Consequently, there is no single point of failure along the entire path, from backbone to server.
