Xing Technology Releases Fastest MP3 Encoder; Adds Momentum to MP3 as Next Generation Digital Music Format
Business Wire, June 30, 1998
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 1998--Xing Technology Corporation today announced the release of its XingMP3 Encoder, which compresses audio (WAV) files into small, easy to manage MP3 files, while maintaining superior digital audio quality. The XingMP3 Encoder, selling for $19.95 through select online resellers, is eight times faster than other MP3 encoders and half the cost, making it the must-have encoding solution for MP3 enthusiasts and MP3 software applications.
The release - which coincides with Xing's sponsorship of the first annual MP3 Summit on July 2 in San Diego - reinforces the company's leading position in the world of digital audio.
"MP3 is the most exciting technological development in music since the advent of the compact disc," said Hassan Miah, President and CEO of Xing, who will be delivering the keynote address at the Summit. "The new MP3 Encoder, by making it faster and easier than ever to create MP3 files, is at the forefront of this revolution, giving consumers the freedom to hear what they want, when they want."
The XingMP3 Encoder allows tracks from an audio CD to be compressed into a digital file 1/10 of its original size. Once compressed, songs can be easily stored on a hard drive for playback on a PC, with virtually no loss in sound quality. Users can manage their music collection on their PC, home stereo connected to the PC, or Internet radio station. The small size of MP3s allows for hours of music to be stored rather than the one-hour limit of traditional CDs. MP3 files can be streamed for live Web broadcasts, transferred to portable music players, or downloaded and purchased simultaneously for a small fee.
The XingMP3 Encoder offers MP3 consumers the most powerful tool available for compressing cumbersome WAV files into MP3 files. "Its ease of use and speed should heighten awareness among audiophiles of the power of MP3 as a music management and customization solution," said Miah.
Key features of the XingMP3 Encoder include:
-- 8X faster than most popular encoders -- MP3 playback capabilities -- GUI based, with command line encoder included -- Drag and drop functionality -- Plugs into popular command line encoder front ends -- Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 and IE 4.0 compatible -- User-friendly interface
"Xing has always been at the forefront of digital audio and video," said Dennis Mudd, President of MusicMatch. "The company has an established record of world-class MPEG products, so they were the perfect MP3 encoding solution for our MusicMatch Jukebox, the first completely integrated digital music management software for the home market. Our partnership with Xing provides consumers with the best and fastest MP3 encoder."
The MP3 Summit will be broadcast live through Xing's web site. To access the audio cybercast and experience MP3 first-hand or for more information on MP3, visit www.xingtech.com. The cybercast begins at 8:30 a.m. PST, July 2. To register for the conference, contact MP3.com at http://www.mp3.com.
