Open System Solutions First to Offer Syslog Management Support for Cisco IOS Firewall Feature Set
Business Wire, March 10, 1998
MEDFIELD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 1998--Internet World--Open System Solutions, Inc., the leader in Syslog Management software for Cisco Systems routers and Cisco PIX(TM) Firewalls announced today at Internet World, that their Private I product line now supports the new Cisco IOS(TM) Firewall feature set for Cisco routers. The Cisco IOS Firewall feature set combines existing Cisco IOS security technology and the new Context-Based Access Control (CBAC) feature allowing security administrators to implement robust network security directly in the router.
Scott Hartman, Senior Network Engineer at a large Telco in Cary, North Carolina says "with the Cisco IOS Firewall feature set, I can get enhanced security right at my router. The alerting and detailed reporting of Private I will notify me of anything I need to know about the data going through any one of my routers."
Open System Solutions defined the Syslog Management software market niche in 1996 with the release of their Private I for Cisco's PIX Firewall. Unlike SNMP which is designed to monitor performance and connectivity of the devices on the network, syslog management is designed to alert, audit, and report on the actual data flowing through the Cisco router or PIX Firewall. Private I has the unique ability to preprocess, age, and dynamically load syslog data from multiple routers or PIX Firewalls into one centrally managed relational database allowing security administrators to painlessly track down past suspicious security events and/or receive alerts in real-time.
Lynn Mormann, President of Open System Solutions, Inc. states "After successfully leading the charge with Cisco's PIX Firewall for three years and now with Cisco's IOS Firewall feature set, we realized that Fortune 1000 companies were demanding an electronic audit trail to verify that management driven security policies were actually effective. We chose to develop Private I for Cisco products first, because of their leadership in networking."
The Private I product offers an easy to use management tool that offers automatic HTML-based report summaries, Top 20 usage reports, connection time, byte counts, unlimited user-defined queries, and alerts via email and paging. In addition, Private I provides an intelligent log file aging mechanism which allows past weeks or even months of router/PIX activity to be recalled at a moment's notice.
Pricing/Availability
Private I for Cisco routers and the PIX Firewall are both available today in single user or client-server configurations. List prices start at $400. Versions for both Windows NT and Solaris are available for download at www.opensystems.com or through select Cisco authorized resellers worldwide. Fully operational demo versions are available via download or on CD-ROM with a free 30 day license.
