IRIS to Supply OCR Software for HP LaserJet 3100 Monochrome Printer-Fax-Copier-Scanner

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 16, 1998--Image Recognition Integrated Systems (IRIS) announced Monday that it has signed a licensing agreement with Hewlett-Packard Company to integrate its innovative multi-lingual optical character recognition (OCR) software into the HP LaserJet 3100 monochrome printer-fax-copier-scanner.
The announcement was made by Pierre DeMuelenaere, president of Belgium-based IRIS, the leading OCR software developer in Europe.
Readiris 3.95, the recent upgrade of the firm's popular OCR software, was selected as the most appropriate for HP's versatile new "all-in-one" product. The HP LaserJet 3100 printer-fax-copier-scanner is expected to sell for $699 (U.S. street price).

This new version of Readiris recognizes 32 languages, including American English, Brazilian, British English, Bulgarian, Byelorussian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, French, German, Greek, Finnish, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Lithuanian, Luxembourg, Macedonian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovakian, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian.
Other features of this software include:
-- Improved accuracy for touching or broken characters, degraded
characters, faxes and dot matrix documents -- Flexible media handling for scanning everything from business
cards to legal-size documents -- Ability to recognize two different alphabets on the same document -- Ability to automatically reconstruct the layout of the original
document, including columns -- Ability to correct OCR errors (degraded characters, faxes, etc.).
The system will stop on the problem and display the image of the
symbol to the users, who can make the correction. The results of
the training can be saved -- Table reading
