KatieSoft's New Cutting-Edge Picture in Picture Browser Reaches 100,000 Distribution Mark
Business Wire, March 5, 1998
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 1998--KatieSoft Inc. announced today that shareware distribution of the Picture in Picture (PiP) browser enhancement for Internet Explorer had exceeded 100,000 units in the four-month period ending Feb. 28, 1998.
"We are very excited that our PiP product is seeing such widespread acceptance in so many web applications, from generalized surfing to research, online trading and web site development," said Brian Duperrouzel, CEO of Katiesoft. "As it effectively maxes out your available bandwidth, Picture in Picture has proven to be a winner at any connection speed."
"Picture in Picture is a great example of cutting-edge component-based technology," added Tod Nielsen, general manager of Developer Relations for Microsoft. "PiP leverages the proven strength of Internet Explorer's HTML rendering engine, and enables advanced customization for serious web users."
PiP gives Web surfers unprecedented URL control and management capabilities. By providing a multi-paned browser window, PiP allows users to access up to four Web sites simultaneously, without having to create and resize several browser windows to accommodate each page.
wURLwind(TM) technology allows up to 20 sites to be preloaded online and viewed sequentially in programmable, slide show-style series. Additional features include configurable toolbars and drop-down URL address bars; start-up and shutdown options; and advanced IE 4.0 integration including bookmark access, page load status lights, and programmable home and search sites.
Current versions of Picture in Picture now feature start-up content from MSNBC, CBS Sportsline and CNET. "For the release of PiP 2.5 we actively looked for premium web content providers to fill the initial Home pages programmed into our product," said Angus Chassels, COO. "Our diverse start-up content has proven to be a popular concept with our customers, who are web savvy and clearly favor dynamically designed and efficient sites.
"For example, MSNBC's site was a perfect choice for inclusion as a Home page. Their site is compact, cutting edge and very easy to move through. Given their interest in new technology and software, as well as their strength in online news, MSNBC was an easy fit, both into a PiP window and our user demographic."
Picture in Picture has recently received rave reviews, including: "Hot File of the Day" and 5 stars from ZDNet (Ziff-Davis), 5 Stars from Practical Internet UK, Cool Tool of the Day.
